'Technical
rehearsal' is a major part of a performer's life. It involves
understanding of lights, sound & stage for the performance to be
enhanced and imagined in its finality. As performers, we are mostly
juggling with these aspects. This workshop is designed to teach the
basics of light designing that will enable each performer to understand,
engage with and have a conclusive dialogue with the lighting team
(designers & technicians). This is a two day workshop with theory
and hands-on practice.

I tried myself to work with Rasika Agase as I was very much impresseive with her working style. Somehow I got a chance of opportunity through Zessan.
for me it's a small shock when he asked me he asked me to execute the lights. I started listening their lines in front of Bhahumukh and came to conclusion that it will be a different experience. Yes finally I had that.
By the time I have seen the set I was totally confused how to make more visible. After 10 mins discussion I understand that the whole play is going in three layers. 1. The narrators narrating the story of Romeo Juliet. 2. The adaptation of the play in contemporary performance. 3. The original Shakespeare's Romeo Juliet. As know the story of the original play it will be easy for me that's what I tthought initially. We had gone for a tech run cue by cue and I programmed all the cues accidenordingly. And executed the lights in smoother way. It's a cool experience when one understand the thematic format of design.

An artistic approach towards 377 verdict, A play about not straights, A love story of the marginalized people. From the day 1 we have started working on the play through the scenography. The play has mutli places . We have started creating a model in a way that where we can find "hide and seek" through the set. It was intially designed as rigid set in the centre stage and the other sides we have attached some flats to counter the rigidness.

But where as in the second show we have transformed all these rigidness of the set into flexible. The innovation of this particular module of transporting of the set, added choreography is an asset for the play. The set and the lights have given life to the whole play. Its a brave attempt made from me in accordance to the budget. Those locations in the story have been executed through the minor displacements of the flat of 6 by 4 ft with the net cloth. I was also trying to bring out the depth through my lighting which was appreciated by more audience in SRC.
I feel very happy to work with Bharat Sharma, my teacher. Narendra Sharma festival of Dance this time concentrated more about the solo performances of contemporary performers. The festival has 12 solo performances. The performances started with Sojini Gupta performance, which combines with the digital media as the design element had created an illusion of light and had given new impact on the performers body.

The performances by Bharat Sharma, Surjeet Singh, Rajsree and Subro Gosh have
made aclear impact to the audience. These solo performances are
individual with different ideas conceived by the performers with a perceptible approach towards choreography.

The interactive dance of Mr Santosh Nair, with the digital media has shown the developments in the Indian dance performances. The design of the choreography is much more attractive. The inner image of the performer was screened on 30 by 40 screen on the cyclorama and the dancer was made a good interaction while performing on the stage. He also made 7 boxes on stage and interacted seven images on the screen with different movement and Mudras. I think as 7 is the most important number for Indians, The choreographer might used 7 boxes on the stage.

Neha Gupta and Himani Sharma the principle dancers of Bhoomika devised a meaningful performances from their own experiences. These performances are vibrant and vital in the festival. The moment based performances by Subhasish and Sangeeta Sharma had given an understand of classical adaptations of Indian dances.

The talkative dancer , a performance by Sumith Nagdev, definitely made the audience laugh. The performance comibines so many dance forms with the poem and script written by the performer. Martha Graham dance not the MARATHA GARAM dance was an interesting peace in his performance.

Karan's performance of ballet dance is a new kind of performance in the festival. It was attractive with out making an impact on the audience.

Being Stage Manager and the Lighting Assistance for the whole festival of dance had given me a different kind of experience to train Nirmal, Ankit and Neeraj. The festival went very smooth without much difficulties as its well planned in advance and well coordinated with all. The comparing of Sushmitha Gosh and project ideas by Tripura Kashyap is another advantage for the festival to be succeed. In and all Goutham's co ordination and lights design added a different flavour to the whole festival.

MACBETH was finally performed at GB Hall, University of Hyderabad. Its been tough time and with busy schedule we have done it and this Macbeth is something different than any other performances have ever happened in Hyderabad so far. The Play starts with an unexpected face book chat among the three witches talking about the next meeting.

Jijo Mathew who played the role of Macbeth did an exceptional job playing the role. The same must be said to Mr. Benny who played the role of Macduff. The set is very simple with a big white curtain as cyclorama and it resembles the tent in the war field and two nets on the either side which had created the perfect atmosphere for the show.

The costumes made the play feast for the eyes and it's ,more spectacular. Each Character was imbued with personality and had given a clear picture of the characteristics of the character. Costumes Designed by Shiva prasad Tumu, A Ph.d Scholar in the Department.

The Play was Designed and Directed by Mr. Rajeev Velicheti, Associate Prof. He worked with students in an impressive and comfortable situation. He allowed the students to work on their own and had given the chances to explore themselves on their character. He worked with unparalleled fervor and made it possible for the students to show their artistic ability on stage. The play visually resembles a piece of art. It had it's own images with an interventions of the projected Images.

The Video projections of Witches chat on Facebook,Letter from the King, the visuals in the projection had given a different impact for this creative performances.
Performance Process:

It was a herculean task to provide some directorial visuals and evocative imageries for a narrative like this. Therefore we thought of breaking up the story line into Units,Dividing six students into three groups, devising, improvising every unit of the story into three different versions. Then picked up workable ideas from the three versions of improvised inputs and putting them t make one single final unit.

Being Production Manager :

For me, the process was very interesting initially. The process was turned into more difficult to execute the ideas of the students. Identifying the problem, giving a solution and made the necessary arrangements to the students is a versatile job which i have done in the process. The production process on the sets started on 15th Aprl, 2012. And we have an Idea to open the show out side the department. As the whether is not at good condition during those 5 days we decided to perform in the studio 2 of the space 40 ft 40 ft. The performance space is occupied half of the studio. So that we can accommodate only 25 audience.

Lights Design

In this play I used the projector as the source of light. Multi colour lighting through the projector had given a colour ful effect n the stage. As the studio s too small to mount the lights I used more crossed light. And The lighting from the projector helped me for the visibility of the actors who is on the stage.
The Dream of Shajahan constructing the Taj Mahal at the present Days would be difficult. Its the play of duality in space and Time. The stage was separated with two parts as one is showing the corporate office and the other is meant for the courtyard of the King. The whole stage was lighten only at the opening stage. As it's more verbal instead of visualizing the text we used two different spaces and try to lighten up as the scenes going in the areas.

The play 'ROMEO, JULIET AND SECURITY GUARD', Directed by Jane Collins, is a site specific work, performed throughout the open space of S.N.School of Arts and Communication. Over a period of time, by regular discussion with the Scenographer and the inputs from the Director, we decided to elevate some places with different kinds of lighting. The basic design of the audience path was lighten by the halogen lamps. Some areas like the murder scene inside the bathrooms were made a mysterious place through the blue filtered tube lights. The marriage party scene was highlighted through the series of the bulbs with the twinkling switcher. We also used 'mashal' (oil lamps) to energize the space.

The chasing scene was designed with different structures made of bambo sticks and lightened by the 200 watts bulbs connected in a series. An intimate space was designed in the candle light, (as shown in the above picture) wherein, a discussion regarding marriage was performed by Juliet and her mother.
The play 'Reflections', revolves around varied images of 'the suffering body', performed at Abhimunch auditorium during IFTI, in January 2012. It comprises of five main sequences and their sub-sequences. The performance revolves around the theme of the suffering body from different backgrounds, justified and executed with precise actions and inner monologues.

As discussed with the director, Noushad Mohammed Kunju, Reader, Theatre Arts, University of Hyderabad, we planned a different colour scheme for the each individual sequence. To enlightening the space I followed the divisions of the stage into 9 parts. Because it is also a movement oriented on the floor, I also used different colour tones on the floor lights. These joining points of the colour lights and the illusion created by the merging of colours is appropriated.

At the end, the stage was divided into six compartments where it resembles the city life. The actors in the above photo, explores the real life situations happening in the metropolitan city flats, like Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolakata.

The play 'ROOP AROOP' blends with the tradition of “NAUTANKI” as its backdrop. Still in some parts of the country, men adorn the female persona in some plays, which is passed on from one generation to another. However, towards the middle of the previous century, women set foot on this stage. Most of them represent from the “BEDIN” community, who are professionally singers and dancers by caste and birth. Usually, they give performances during festivals and occasions like marriages. For them the stage was a distant dream and meant performance as dignity. On the stage, tussle between the accomplished male actor and the aspiring woman role being played by another male actor is not an easy task. This is an attempt by two young actors to explore some human dimensions of this phenomenon. The above transition may perish in the coming future, but the role of the popular female persona continues to persist.

Having the experience as an executor in the fields of sound and video for more than 15 shows at various places in India, this play has given me a good traveling experiences with the small group environment.
Being an actor, narrating a street play on AIDS has given me an experience to participate in the Community Theatre. Performing a street play is not a new form to the theatre, but where as the experience which I got it from the performance on AIDS has given me a chance to show my spontaneous acting skills. As a narrator (known as 'joker' in Community Theatre) of the play, I experienced some very interesting situations during the performance. Due to the active participation of the people from slum, their ignorance and illiteracy on AIDS, I had to deeply interact with them.

The Play 'Montage', directed by me was previewed on 26th November at GB hall, University of Hyderabad. This play is the montage of the monologues (Julie, father, The lawyer, jean, The student.), written by August Strindberg and are the characters from his writings Miss Julie, The Ghost Sonata, The Father, and The Dream Play. The characters split, double, multiply, evaporate, condense, dissolve and merge. This play itself doesn’t center on a single well defined individual, but rather simply follows someone who seems to be a combination of different characters. It’s a montage of these characters representing the present life situations. We tried seeking relations among those characters to find out the sociological situations and relationship mentioned by the writer. As the meaning of montage goes, here we combined by taking some of his monologues to make a clear picture of what he wanted to reveal through the characters.

This play is an experiment by introducing all techniques, possibilities through the theatre. We tried some improvisations to enhance the characterization and to reach the audience. This play elaborates individual characters as well as the sustainability of these characters in present society. We have taken some of his monologues and found the link between those characters and made the play out of that. Strindberg’s greatest power lies in the portrayal of the character, and the conflicts human minds he delights in show is the superiority of one individual over another. Here we also find the inner characterization of these characters and making a montage of those monologues.

This play was Designed and Directed by Dr. N.J Bhikshu. It was a great opportunity to work under him. 'Oedipus Rex' was known for its tragedy. My intention was to create moods according to the situation happening on the stage. The play was run for three days simultaneously. The final days show had given me a good response from the audience. For me it was a great attempt to create such kind of illusions on the stage. The complicated situations in the play was such that, I had to manage the scenes with the help of different tones of lighting.

It's a great opportunity to work with Prof. Mohan Maharshi. Indeed, professionally I have learnt a lot working with him. Tomstoppords's radio play 'Albert's Bridge', turning to a stage play is a quite interesting experiment. Even though it was from another media, it still has the relevance. This production uses the published text as a starting point. As the production grew, there were all kinds of sensibilities, ideas, concepts which poured into the final form varied sources.

Apparently it has a story, but various forms of extra theatrical inputs have rendered that story incidental. Forms, images, both audio and visual, emphasize many different layers of meanings to provide a unique sensory experience to the audience.

Being a stage manager of this play, movement of the actors had given me to understand the lines of the play and to write down the blog. The strong structure and an uncommon movements of the actors and actresses is a great strength of the play.
