MAHISASHURA MARDINI

'Mahishasuramardini'
Choreographed by Ajay Srinivas Chakravarthy, Lights Design by Murali Basa

This show was performed on Dasehara festival at Guntur, which was a great success and the audience were very happy to view a classical Kuchipudi dance drama.  It was also a good experience for me to explore my self in the 'traditional form'. 'Mahisashura Mardini', directed by Ajay Srinivas Chakravarthy, who was my class mate at S.N.School of Arts & Communication during the period 2006-08.  I had a good flexibility to discuss further more during this play to enhance the richness of the production in terms of visual aspect. In this production we tried to show the different locations according to myth by using different kinds of sets and lights. The production has a vibrancy in its structure, to show the the vibrancy of the production we used different kinds of lights on each location. There were some scenes like the the chanting of Brahma by Mahisasura and the dance of Apsaras, where I had to use different lights at a time.

The celebration of the gift from Brahma by its fellow friends, Entrance of Devi, Kali and other  war scenes of among the goddess and demons, And the final war of Mahisashura mardini and Devi are a slight glimpses of the the production where a spectator can relate the celebrations of Jatara.

Choreography : Ajay Srinivas Chakravarthy
